Parran’s Po Boys

Since we were out we decided to try this place. Mike got a half shrimp po boy and coleslaw and Jana got crawfish etouffee. They were okay. Nothing to write home about.

American Sector Restaurant

We got lunch at the Museum. There are two restaurants…one more fine dining and the other a soda fountain/canteen. Jana got a cup of shrimp and crab bisque and a charcuterie plate and Mike got an all American burger. They were very good.

Strangely, there must be a medical convention nearby. We sat next to a table with a doctor who talked the whole meal about different gynecological conditions. Who know progesterone was so interesting???

Our server was John and he was quite the character.

Cafe Du Monde Visit 5

After the Farmer’s Market, we spent the day at the Airbnb doing laundry and catching up on our tv shows. We might have slipped a nap in, too. Around 3:45 PM we headed over to City Park for a coffee, root beer and beignets. We saw some new plants and a flock of ibises.

Kenner Seafood visit 2

We came back. Every place we have tried has been compared to Kenner Seafood. We decided to sample it again to make sure we were just not really hungry that day. It is still wonderful. We had a cup of seafood gumbo with rice that was good. Mike had fried shrimp with coleslaw and potato salad. Mike said the coleslaw and potato salad were excellent. Jana had crab cakes, shrimp, jalapeno hushpuppies and brown gravy (roast beef debris) and rice. Very good. For dessert we had bread pudding with rum sauce.

Cafe du Monde visit 4

We decided to kill some time while we waited for the eclipse to grow. So, of course we headed over to get drinks and beignets. As we walked up we saw a tour bus pulling up. We hurried to beat them to the line but they were picking up tourist and not dropping off. Mike waited in line while I grabbed a table for two near the sax musician that is there several days a week.

Sitting in the warm breeze with Mike enjoying our snack I felt overwhelmed with gratitude that we have had this opportunity. I never realized how nice it would be to just look at each other and say, “What do you want to do next?” Sometimes it is a walk. Sometimes a snack. Sometimes a nap. Sometimes it is a good book. Sometimes it is a drive in a direction we have never gone in before. I look forward to the adventures we will have.

Frey Smoked Meat Co

After an afternoon napping and reading we decided to stay in the neighborhood and look for somewhere close. We took a break from the seafood and came here. Jana got the daily special of Fried Ribs and Mike got a Brisket Wedge Salad. The cornbread was very good with honey butter on top.

La Boulangerie

We drove around the Garden District and found this french bakery on Magazine Street. Magazine street is lined with coffee shops, artists, boutiques and restaurants. You can also stroll by beautiful homes and gardens. We grabbed some regular and chocolate croissants for breakfast tomorrow. They were sold out of the chocolate croissant bread pudding.

Creole Creamery

After lunch we headed over to the Up Town area and the Garden District. We picked up Jana’s free Nothing Bundt Cake for her birthday next week and stoped at Creole Creamery to check it out. There are a couple of locations here in New Orleans.

Dessert! Yum! Mike got udder butter and Jana got cookie monster.

Liuzza’s Restaurant & Bar

After a lazy morning we headed here for lunch. This was recommended by one of Mike’s coworkers. Jana got shrimp with fettuccine alfredo and Mike got sausage, red beans & rice. It was a typical neighborhood bar. The food was okay. Maybe we should have ordered something else. MIke’s root beer did come in a huge frosted mug.
